Swatara Township Fire & Rescue is looking for volunteer firefighters committed to serving the community in exchange for camaraderie, continuous training, a family environment, and many other benefits. Our volunteer firefighters serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, training for and performing duties in the following diverse categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, and public education.
We are a very busy department, averaging over 1100 calls a year including working structure fires and vehicle extractions. We operate an Engine Company, Truck Company, and Heavy Rescue Company in addition to housing the Swatara Township Water Rescue Division.
Our immediate response area is a mix of residential, multi-residential, and commercial structures, as well as a large portion of the interstate highway system that runs through the Harrisburg Metro Area. We provide mutual aid responses to Harrisburg City, Susquehanna Township, Steelton Borough, Highspire Borough, Middletown Borough, Lower Paxton Township as well as many others.
